OUT & ABOUT

Places To Visit & Things To Do

There is so much to do on Exmoor, that it is impossible for us to list exactly everything on the website so we have just given you a taste of what is available below.

Walking

There are numerous footpaths over the moor, providing endless walks for the casual stroller or for the serious hiker.

Surfing & Windsurfing

Good surf can be found on the North Devon and Somerset coasts. Croyde Bay and Woolacombe are particularly good.

Site Seeing

Exmoor provides some truely breathtaking scenic views over rugged coastal cliffs, undulating farmland, acres of ancient woodland and spectacular wild open moorland. There are many interesting buildings and places to enjoy and explore such as Dunster Castle, Dunster Water Mill, West Somerset Steam Railway, The Cliff Railway at Lynton and Lynmouth, The Old Mineral Line at Raleighs Cross, Tarr Steps and The Doone Valley.

Fishing

Game fishing for brown and rainbow trout can be found at various locations all over Exmoor, both at local Ponds and Resevoirs or in the Exmoor Rivers of the Barle, Exe and Lyn. Course and salmon fishing can be had in Rivers and Ponds. Sea fishing is available on the coast or by chartering a local boat.

Shooting

Clay and Pheasant shooting can be enjoyed at various locations on Exmoor. The Pheasant and Partridge shooting season is between September and Febuary, however, clayshooting events are held all the year around.

Riding

There are many places to hire Horses and Ponies on Exmoor, and numerous paths and bridleways to ride along in order to explore off the beaten track.

Hunting

Exmoor has been famous for its hunting since the time of the Saxon kings around 1000 years ago. There are several hunts covering the Exmoor area and many places where horses can be hired for the day.
